PSI PRIORITY BAYS
Port Angeles Harbor Sediments Study
Port Angeles Harbor is one of seven Puget Sound bays being targeted by the Puget Sound Initiative. Ecology used special funding from the Puget Sound Initiative to investigate sediment pollution and develop a strategy for cleaning up the harbor.
Final Port Angeles Harbor Sediment Study Reports
The sediment investigation found two major sources of contamination in Port Angeles Harbor—in the inner (western) harbor and near the former Rayonier Mill. Two reports detail the results of the investigation:
Ecology finalized the reports in January 2013. See page 5 of the responsiveness summary for changes we made to the reports based on comments we received about the draft reports.
Rayonier will use some of the data from the harbor sediments investigation for the Rayonier Mill cleanup site. Rayonier’s reports on the marine portion of the Rayonier Mill study area will be due in March 2013.
Based on the sediment investigation results, Ecology has identified the Western Port Angeles Harbor site. Ecology is working with the potentially liable parties (PLPs) for that site on next steps.
