Island County has offered low-interest loans for repairs of failing on-site sewage systems (OSS) since 1993. The County received funding through the FY2006 legislative set-aside and has more recently received additional funding through the Water Pollution Control State Revolving Fund (SRF) and Centennial Clean Water fund (Centennial) to continue its program.
Because of the island geography, virtually all on-site sewage systems (OSS) in Island County could impact Puget Sound water quality. However, the County does consider the potential for environmental impact and public health concerns, as well as financial need, when it makes its lending decisions.
* Ecology closed this loan in 2012, with the County having spent about half of the funds awarded. The County elected to use the 2011 loan funds for the program since the interest rate was lower.
The map below shows the repairs funded by this program through May 2012.
