Fresh Fruit Packing General Permit

The fresh fruit packing general permit protects water quality, supports a strong economy, and meets the needs of the fresh fruit packing industry. The permit outlines uniform conditions and treatment, discharge and disposal methods for the industry based on the similarities of wastewater characteristics among facilities.

This permit is effective beginning September 1, 2016. Under the renewed permit, Ecology is allowing use of a new fungicide, Difenoconazole, to the industry. This new fungicide was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Industry leadership has agreed to manage wastewater using lined evaporative lagoons when the proposed fungicide is used in drenching and packing line processes.
