Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit

The Aquatic Mosquito Control Permit is an important tool to protect public health and the environment. It protects water quality and allows spraying for both nuisance and disease-carrying mosquitoes. It allows mosquito control districts, local government and others to legally spray to control larvae and adult mosquitoes.

The permit is a combined National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and State Waste Discharge General Permit. It covers the control of mosquitoes where the use of a specific list of adulticides and larvicides will result in a discharge to surface waters in Washington.

Ecology has reissued the Aquatic Mosquito Control NPDES General Permit on May 20, 2015. The permit is effective 30 days after issuance.
