The purpose of this task is to clarify our understanding of the behavior and fate of toxic chemicals as they migrate from their primary sources to Puget Sound, particularly for the surface runoff pathway. Ecology will develop a conceptual model of the pathways to Puget Sound and populate a corresponding toxics loading matrix or inventory for communication among scientists and with the public.
Expected Outcome: Tools that will help the Puget Sound Partnership develop and implement a toxics reduction strategy that motivates the public to focus their efforts on addressing the most important sources of toxic chemicals.
The Department of Ecology's Environmental Assessment Program will oversee this sub-task.
