This work will improve our understanding of how the biological community in Puget Sound may act as reservoirs and transporters of contaminants. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will estimate the reservoir (mass) of top priority contaminants in the living organisms of Puget Sound from existing biomass and contaminant data. WDFW will estimate the movement of these contaminants among the biological compartments and between biota and sediment, as well as the transport of these contaminants to and from Puget Sound by migratory animals. Data gaps will be identified. The results from this project will support management decisions for actions to control ongoing sources of toxics to Puget Sound and to reduce the amount of legacy toxics already present in Puget Sound.
WDFW will oversee this sub-task
