2012 Municipal Stormwater General Permit Reissuance
On August 1, 2012, the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) reissued three general National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) municipal stormwater permits:
At the direction of 2012 legislation, Ecology reissued both Phase II permits without modification for a period of one (Western WA) and two (Eastern WA) years. Ecology also reissued the Phase I permit for a period of one year with limited changes.

Past Work on Permit Reissuance
For more than 3 years, Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) has been working with interested parties and advisory groups in Western Washington to develop permit requirements. Ecology developed and managed advisory groups for input on monitoring and low impact development requirements. For more on these groups go to:
In Eastern Washington, Ecology initiated discussions in 2011 with permittees and interested parties to gather input on future permit monitoring and LID requirements.
In addition to the early work of the Western Washington advisory groups, Ecology held eight public Listening Sessions around the state from August to October 2010.
