Water Quality Improvement
The marine waters, rivers, lakes, and streams in and around Washington State are part of the state’s identity, character, and daily life. At one time clean water seemed to be an abundant, free resource. But population growth brought with it an increase in development and greater utilization of clean water. These growing demands lead to increasing pollution problems. To protect and preserve the quality of our state's waters requires all our citizens to play a role in reducing pollution and protecting Washington’s watersheds. Partnerships are one of the most productive ways to protect water quality. This website provides information to help residents, stakeholders, and policy makers understand the complex issues around improving water quality, find out what Ecology is doing to clean up our waters, and help each person learn what they can do to help keep our rivers, lakes, and marine waters clean.
