The Status

Field work for the studies was conducted throughout 2005. During 2006-07 the data was compiled, analyzed, and modeled. We expect to finish a report on the study, and a summary plan for cleanup by mid-2008. Mason County's Action Plan will provide the foundation for the cleanup plan.

The bacteria study report and summary cleanup plan will be made available for public review. After addressing comments, Ecology will submit the report to the Environmental Protection Agency for approval.  Cleanup work will include continued monitoring, evaluation, and adjustment of cleanup strategies to achieve cleanup targets.

The approximate schedule for the process is:

Technical Study:
  • 2003 - Scoping
  • 2005 - Field studies
  • 2006-07 - Analyses, modeling, report
Water Quality Improvement Project:
  • Summer 2008: Conduct public review process
  • Fall 2008:  submit Water Quality Improvement Report (WQIR) to EPA
  • EPA has 60 days to approve
