The Department of Ecology contracted with the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a water quality computer model for the Spokane River and Lake Spokane.  The model used data obtained from recent and past studies. Ecology used this model to predict water quality changes in response to various modeling scenarios. The model and its predictions were used to establish a total maximum daily load (TMDL) for pollutants that affect dissolved oxygen in the Spokane River and Lake Spokane.

The modeling results and the Foundational Concepts for the Spokane River TMDL Managed Implementation Plan have been incorporated into a revised Spokane River DO TMDL in 2007.
