When wastewater treatment plants are properly operated, public health and the state's waters are protected. This certification program is working to help ensure that operators meet the established requirements and are competent to operate and maintain wastewater treatment plants.

More and more water is becoming polluted and must be treated before it can be used safely. If you're interested in protecting Washington's water and want to become certified, you've come to the right website.

  Online Professional Growth Records (CEUs)
You can now view your current and historical professional growth data and print a copy of your unofficial transcript online.  Employers may also view and print a list of either all of their operator's or individual operator's professional growth data.  CEU Transcripts

Professional Growth Requirement Reminder
For most of you, December 31, 2009, marks the end of a professional growth period.  We want to remind you that beginning with the 2009 professional growth period; one Continuing Education Unit (CEU) must be specific to wastewater, while the remaining two CEUs can be relevant to wastewater.  What that means is that no matter how many CEUs you have, unless one of them is specific, you haven't met your professional growth requirement.

Specific training is directly related to improving competencies in areas that relate to operating a wastewater treatment plant.  Specific trainings include things like wastewater treatment process, operation and maintenance of equipment, and lab procedures.

Relevant training does not directly relate to operating a wastewater treatment plant, but is accepted for CEUs towards meeting professional growth.  Relevant trainings include things like drinking water, safety, collections, and management training.

When is professional growth documentation due?
Professional growth documents are due when you receive them from the trainer. Make a copy of your professional growth documents, write your certification number on the copy, and mail it to:
     Department of Ecology
     Wastewater Operator Certification
     PO Box 47696
     Olympia WA 98504-7696
