Ecology monitors water quality in streams; rivers; and other water bodies for a number of reasons. Some monitoring provides data on the condition of a water body and establishes trends in its environmental health. Monitoring also tracks the success and usefulness of best management practices (BMPs) for water cleanup. Monitoring is also used to determine whether water bodies are meeting state water quality standards.
