Kennewick ASR Pilot

The Project

The City of Kennewick will divert and treat water in winter months, when water is most available and the city’s treatment plant has the greatest surplus capacity, then pump the water to two injection wells and store it in the aquifer for later use. By doing so, the City of Kennewick will require less water from the Columbia River in the summer months when streamflows are at their lowest.

Opportunities

The project will help ease demand for Columbia River water in the summer months when streamflows are at their lowest.

Expected Outcomes

At least 318 ac-ft of water will be left in the Columbia River during the summer when it is needed most.
