Water Banking/Exchange Workshop November 21, 2008

On November 21, 2008 Ecology hosted a workshop at the department of Ecology headquarters in Lacey to discuss Water Banking and Water Exchanges. The workshop was attended by a variety of participants including representatives from cities and counties, Ecology and other state agencies, federal agencies, tribes, watershed planning units, irrigation districts, public utilities, water conservancy boards, conservation districts, Washington Water Trust, Washington Rivers Conservancy, private consultants, and others.

The principle purpose of the workshop was to present information on water exchanges and water banking focused on Washington, including the statutory and policy framework existing in the state of Washington. It also provided a forum for discussion about efforts in western Washington to consider and develop exchange and banking approaches. Trust Water Rights Guidance Workshop September 13, 2007

On September 13, 2007, Ecology hosted a workshop at Hal Holmes Auditorium in Ellensburg to present the updated draft guidance document for the Trust Water Rights Program. The workshop was attended by participants from Ecology, Fish and Wildlife, the Conservation Commission, the Washington Water Trust, Washington Rivers Conservancy, US Bureau of Reclamation, North Yakima Conservation District, Kittitas Conservation District, and Soil Conservation Service.

The principle purpose of the workshop was to present a new guidance document, to provide a forum for participants to ask questions about trust water rights generally, and to share experiences gained from case studies of several water acquisition projects. Another workshop objective was to bring together organizations with different roles in the water acquisition process to continue building a statewide network of “trust water savvy” people.
