Public Records Disclosure

Copy Fee Schedule for Public Records

Under RCW 42.56.120, the Department of Ecology is allowed to recover only the actual costs directly related to the copying of public records. These costs include such items as costs related to the copy machine which include maintenance, paper and other supplies, and staff time devoted to the copying process. The agency may not charge a fee for inspection of records, or staff time spent on locating records or retrieval of agency records. The agency is not allowed to make a profit from copy fees.

Postage charges may be added if they exceed $4.00.

State law requires the requester to submit copy fees in advance. In certain instances, the advance payment requirement may be waived.
