The Correlations searchable database helps teachers find Grade Level Expectation (GLE) correlations in core activities from two environmental education activity guides (Project WET and Healthy Water, Healthy People). This will save teachers' time and enable use of these award-winning water education guides to meet Washington State GLEs. For those school districts using Foss, alignments to Foss Kits is also included.
1) How do I find the activity that will match a specific GLE?
Use Search by GLE Number. Select the subject area, type in the GLE number, select a grade level and click GO. The database will return a list of relevant activities.
You may also limit this search to a single curriculum by selecting either Project WET or Healthy Water in the top drop down.
2) How do I find activities for my 5th grade students?
Enter grade 5 in the grade range and click Search. A list of activities for 5th grade will appear with GLEs.
3) How do I list all the entries in the database?
Simply click on Search while leaving all drop-down selections blank. A full list of activities and their GLEs will appear.
4) How do I clear the screen and make another search?
Click on Back in your top tool bar
On the top left of the screen, click on Correlations Search Tool to backtrack to a clear screen
5) How do I print the results of my search?
Click on the print icon in the top tool bar to print the results on your screen.
6) Why aren't Social Studies, Health and Art GLEs numbered?
OSPI has not yet written the GLEs for these subject areas. Social Studies GLEs are due in 2008, Art in 2009 and Health in 2010.
7) How do I get a copy of the activity guides for Project WET or Healthy Water, Healthy People?

Healthy Water, Healthy People Activity Guide books are available for purchase online. You may also want to add the excellent Healthy Water Test Kit Manual which translates the science of monitoring data into easily understandable language and effects. Healthy Water, Healthy People teacher training workshops are also available. See dates of Washington state regional workshops. 8) What is the difference between Project WET and Healthy Water, Healthy People? Are they related?
Yes, these guides are both written by The Watercourse. Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) was written in 1995 in regional writing workshops for broad water education, grades K-12. Healthy Water, Healthy People, an advanced sister curriculum for WET, was written in 2003 to focus on water quality education and monitoring for grades 5-12.
9) Is Project WET available in Spanish?
Yes, you can purchase online a CD of Project WET Spanish student activity pages for $5.00.
Activity Guide – A collection of environmental education hands-on activities (Project WET or its advanced sister guide, Healthy Water, Health People). May also be referred to as a curriculum.
Activity Name – The name of one specific activity from Project WET or Healthy Water, Healthy People (i.e. A Grave Mistake)
Curriculum – May be loosely interchanged with the term “activity guide”, but usually considered more structured. Project WET is technically an activity guide but is commonly referred to as a curriculum.

EALR - Essential Academic Learning Requirement that OSPI defines by grade level to articulate the state's expectations and learning standards. EALRs are supported by specific student learning in Grade Level Expectations (GLEs). The Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) tests measure whether students have met those standards.
Field-based – learning experiences outside the classroom, in the field, by streams, etc.
FOSS Kits – classroom kits by grade level and focused on specific concepts (i.e. Water)
GLE – Grade Level Expectations providing specific learning standards by grade level to support EALRs (see above).
GLE Subject Area – Science, Math, Reading, Communication, Social Studies, Health or Art
Grade Range – Either a single grade (enter just one: 5) or a range of grades (i.e. for middle school: 6 to 8) 0 – in Grade column of Search Results page refers to a K-2 grade Option, usually found at the back of the Project WET activity.
Hands-on – Students learn by doing, experiencing the lesson, not just listening or reading. Results are a much deeper, more complete level of understanding, remembered longer.
Healthy Water, Healthy People – Excellent for outdoor inquiry-based learning. An advanced water education curriculum of hands-on activities focused on water quality monitoring for grades 6-12. Science-based and interdisciplinary. Written by scientists and teachers in national and regional writing workshops, teacher-tested and refined.
Inter-disciplinary – refers to an activity that teaches across subject areas together. For instance uses science, math, social studies, health and communication concepts all together in context of a real life issue. Many real world water issues require understanding and skills in all these disciplines. Environmental education in general, and water education in particular, is an excellent integrating context for student learning.
Project WET - Water education curriculum of hands-on activities focused on water quality monitoring for grades 3-12 with some K-2 options. Science-based and interdisciplinary. Written by scientists and teachers in national and regional writing workshops, teacher-tested and refined. Used in all 50 states & internationally. Locally focused on community water issues (Where does your water come from and where does it go? Who uses water and for what? (All of us, for many things) Physical & chemical properties, water systems & cycles, pollution prevention & conservation, ecosystems & health, social and civic choices, etc.)
