Summary

To improve the understanding of coastal uplands and wetlands, and their linkages with the distribution, abundance, and health of living marine resources.

Description

The 2011 Wetlands Inventory was carried out for the Washington State Department of Ecology by the NOAA Coastal Services Center under EPA grant funding. The inventory is based on a land cover classification which utilized 20 full or partial Landsat scenes which were analyzed according to the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) protocol to determine land cover.

The Department of Ecology created the Wetlands Inventory by extracting the wetlands land cover classifications from the overall land cover layer. The following classifications were extracted for the Wetlands Inventory:

Estuarine Aquatic Bed

Estuarine Emergent Wetland

Estuarine Forested Wetland

Estuarine Scrub/Shrub Wetland

Palustrine Aquatic Bed

Palustrine Emergent Wetland

Palustrine Forested Wetland

Palustrine Scrub/Shrub Wetland

Potentially Disturbed Wetlands

Water

Unconsolidated Shore

This classification is based on the following Landsat TM scenes:

p045r026 07/17/2009 and 10/05/2009

p045r027 08/18/2009 and 07/23/2011
