Description:
Abstract:
Four layer files, using the four key fields USE_CODE_NR, SUB1_CODE, Sub2_CODE, and USE_REA, display the standards documented in two publications:
Water Quality Standards for Surface Waters of the State of Washington, Chapter 173-201A WAC, Ecology Publication 06-10-091, Revised January 2012:
<http://www.ecy.wa.gov/biblio/0610091.html>
Waters Requiring Supplemental spawning and Incubation Protection for Salmonid Species, Ecology Publication 06-10-038, Revised January 2011:
<http://www.ecy.wa.gov/biblio/0610038.html>
If any discrepancies are found between GIS layers and the published rule, the published rule takes precedence. The four updated GIS layers do not contain Lake and Marine Standards. When choosing a stream segment that flows through a lake or estuary, consult the publications to verify which WQ Standard applies.These data indicated where and when additional temperature criteria are required to ensure protection for the incubation of salmon, trout, and char. Spawning information in these data are seasonal and must be used in conjunction with other aquatic life use information provided in Part II of the water quality standards. When the Supplemental Temperature data does not apply (see dates for the attribute table), the underlying annual temperature applies.
Purpose:
This dataset contains spatial and attribute information of the Water Quality Standards for Surface Waters of the State of Washington, Chapter 173-201A WAC. Four views of the WQ Standard are generated from this dataset, Freshwater Beneficial Uses, Seasonal Supplemental Spawning and Egg Incubation Temperature Standards, rules designated in Table 602, and exceptions to Table 602 listed in the footnotes. These data must be used in conjunction with other information in Ecology Publication No. 06-10-091 concerning when and where lake or marine statndards take presedence over river and stream standards. The temperatures represented in these data represent the regulatory maximum threshold for the time period specified. This data is compatable with the high resolution NHD (National Hydrography Dataset) and can be used as a linear event.
Supplemental_Information:
See the Water Quality Standards, WAC 173-201A, for regulatory application.
The datasets for the freshwater beneficial uses, the Table 602 designations, and the Exceptions to Table 602 originated with the Washington State Department of Ecology.
The datasets for the supplemental temperature criteria publication 06-10-038 originated with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife at the scale of 1:100,000. Data were reviewed and amended by EPA and others during the 2006 water quality standards rulemaking process. Ecology then cross-walked the resulting data to 1:24,000 NHD dataset.
