Abstract:
These polygon features represent the Water Quality Improvement projects, managed by the Washington State Department of Ecology (ECY).  The projects include: Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) projects and 4b projects.  The boundaries represent the area where the project applies. 
Purpose:
This feature class contains TMDL Boundaries and 4b boundaries to provide the user a visual understanding of the geographic extent for each project, the pollutants assoicated with each project, project status, and a hyperlink to a web page with detailed project information.
Supplemental Information:
The boundaries in this feature class are current as of October 1, 2012.  These maps are visual representations of the TMDLs approved by the U.S. EPA and do not replace the actual text of the submittal reports.

The project boundaries were generally derived from the NHD+ catchments dataset.  Where the boundary intersects those catchments, additional delineation methods were used including: SSHIAP catchments (created using high resolution LiDAR where available), local knowledge of streamflow patterns that are different than the NHD, and using contours from 1:24,000 topographic USGS maps.  Small differences may be present when compared to Hydrologic Units published by USGS, but that is due mostly to the scale at which the source data was created.  All attempts were made to make sure these project boundaries represent our best hydrologic knowledge.  
Municipal stormwater conveyance systems may transport surface runoff outside of the hydrologically defined boundary; these differences are not accounted for in these project boundaries.
