Lower Duwamish River

  • A Focus on the Lower Duwamish Waterway - In 2007 the Lower Duwamish was one of three areas chosen for Washington’s new Urban Waters Initiative. The site consists of 5.5 miles of the waterway south of Harbor Island, with areas of contaminated sediment (mud under the water) and upland properties.
  • Business Inspections in the Lower Duwamish Waterway Area - Ecology′s Water Quality and Hazardous Waste Programs, King County′s Wastewater Treatment Division, and Seattle Public Utilities have been inspecting businesses in the Lower Duwamish Waterway drainage basin.

Commmencement Bay

  • A Focus on Commencement Bay - This publication provides information on the work being done to clean up Commencement Bay. The 2007 Legislature provided nearly $2.5 million for the Initiative through 2009, boosting the cleanup and protection of three areas of Washington, including Commencement Bay. The Commencement Bay project received $775,000.
  • Business Inspections in the Commencement Bay Area - The Washington Department of Ecology and Pierce County agencies are giving free technical help to businesses located in the Commencement Bay drainage basin.
