Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit

We issue this permit to government entities and businesses who plan to use insecticides to control mosquitoes. It allows the discharge of certain types of insecticides into state waters to control larval and adult mosquitoes. This permit does not apply to homeowner use of insecticides for residential control of mosquitoes.

The current permit goes into effect on June 20, 2024, and expires on June 20, 2029.

Current permit documents

2024 permit issuance 

The current permit was issued on May 21, 2024. It goes into effect on June 20, 2024, and expires on June 20, 2029. The current permit (above) replaces the previous Aquatic Mosquito Control permit issued in 2019, which was set to expire on July 4, 2024. For permittees that did not reapply for ongoing coverage, their existing coverage expires on June 30, 2024.  

This final permit is a combined National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and State Waste Discharge general permit which allows permittees using aquatic insecticides and other control products to comply with the Federal Clean Water Act and state law (RCW 90.48.080).
